MISSION
1- To bring families together, sharing faith and fellowship, walking simply and humbly through the wilderness. We seek peace, compassion, and life-change.
2- To provide Adventure Based Interventions to address the gap in individual, couples, and family service interventions and supports, including: psychotherapy, pastoral counseling, professional family life coaching, and custom designed services.
3- To address the disparity between those who need Adventure Based Interventions and those who can afford it.
For ABC credentialed practitioners only. We partner with licensed mental health professionals and pastoral counselors. These Counselors have completed the process of training and supervision with ABC Family Therapy, and are ambassadors of best practice.
We provide monthly consultation/education to members of the ABC Credentialed Counselor Registry.
We are seeking partners in every state, Canada, and abroad. If you are currently licensed as a mental health practitioner and interested in adventure-based counseling, please contact ABC Family Therapy for more details.
As we know the skills and experience of each member, the Registry receives priority referral from ABC Family Therapy.

The field of wilderness therapy is varied. Programs exist across the globe and operate from a wide scope of belief, practice, and programming. We recognize that there are a number of credentialing boards and associations out there, but none addresses concerns related to Christian faith, youth ministry, pastoral counseling, and the integration of these with psychological treatment and/or counseling in the wilderness.
ABC Member programs are expected to hold the standards within the industry, such as membership in NATWC, AEE, WEA, and/or OBHIC.
Member programs have taken the additional steps to address their credentials, experience, and integration of Christian faith, pastoral counseling, and integration of psychological and counseling practice.

Perhaps, our most active group of members, our student members are a diverse group. The connecting factor for student members is their passion for ministry to youth and families, faith, and integration of wilderness/adventure-based methods.

2. ABC Student Member's Online network
3. Monthly educational training program with our network and registry.
4. Discounted prices on ABC Family Therapy events.

We receive a number of requests for internships and training. We try to work with both undergraduate and graduate students. We mentor a number of students pursuing senior projects, graduate theses, and are available for research.
Depending on your program of study, these must be reviewed on a case by case basis.
It's best to email us with a pretty descriptive request, and we'll get back to you.
Please note: While DB Palmer is the Director of Counseling & Wellness at Alaska Pacific University, ABC Family Therapy is not affiliated with Alaska Pacific University. Both programs operate autonomously of one another. Neither program assumes any liability, programming, or responsibility for the other.
